India: Uttarakhand cops stab key into man’s forehead for not wearing helmet, tweeps shocked by police brutality

Dubai: In yet another case of alleged police brutality, a man was stabbed on his forehead with a key of his bike, by policemen in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Three personnel of the local City Patrol Unit were suspended after graphic videos and pictures of the man, walking around with the key embedded in his forehead, went viral.

Shocked tweep @amitvasdev tweeted: “This is an attempt to murder! Imagine the force with which the key must have been jabbed in the forehead.”

The incident happened, around 8pm on Monday, in the Udham Singh Nagar district of the state. The man along with his friend was riding a motorbike, heading to a petrol station. The victim was stopped by the three officials who were on duty that night.

After a heated argument broke out between them and the man, they allegedly took the key from his bike and stabbed it into his forehead. Viral photographs showed the man walking around bleeding, before being admitted to a hospital.

Tweep @SujataIndia1st like many others said urgent action was required in cases of police brutality. She tweeted: “I get nauseous every time I think of it or see the pictures. The culprits must be punished...”

The incident also lead to protests by some locals in the area till a local politician intervened and pacified the residents.

Reportedly, after news about the incident went viral, the three officials were suspended on the orders of senior Uttarakhand police officer Ashok Kumar, and a probe was launched.
