India - Watch: Rainwater pours through a hospital’s ceiling 'like waterfall', in a ward housing COViD-19 patients

Dubai: Patients at a coronavirus designated hospital, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, sat shocked on their beds as rainwater poured down a hole in the roof, yesterday. A video clip of the water flooding the ward, which housed COViD-19 positive patients, went viral on Twitter in India, with tweeps wondering what was happening.

Apparently, the video was taken at a hospital in the state’s Bareilly district, and the administration has clarified that it all happened due to a “pipe leakage”.

According to Indian media reports, the hospital administration took action only after the video went viral. The clip showed water pouring down from the ceiling, as patients looked on.

Many took to Twitter to slam Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and the Indian government over the condition of hospitals, amid a pandemic.

The hospital later claimed that the situation was under control and that the pipe broke due to construction work at the hospital.

In an update, Indian journalist @alok_pandey, who had shared the video on Twitter initially, posted: “ The Bareilly district administration has confirmed the authenticity of the video it was because of a ‘plumbing fault due to construction work’ and that patients were evacuated soon... (Ishan Pratap Singh, Joint Magistrate, Bareilly)”

Ashok Kumar, District Surveillance Officer in Bareilly said: "The water in Rajshree Medical Research Institute and Hospital entered due to a leakage in pipe. Immediate action was taken and the issue was resolved. A report will be sought."

India has reported a total of 1.12 million cases of coronavirus, so far, out of which 47,036 cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh.
