COVID-19: India Home Minister Amit Shah tests coronavirus positive

New Delhi: Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has tweeted that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"After noticing the initial symptoms of coronavirus, I got myself tested. The result turned out to be positive. I feel fine but I am getting admitted to the hospital on the advice of my doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me in the past few days to isolate themselves, and get tested," the powerful home minister, who is seen as the right-hand man of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, tweeted in Hindi.

From an ordinary BJP worker, Shah steadily climbed the ranks to become the second most powerful man in India. His political career has been intertwined with that of his boss, the prime minister.
