Hyderabad: As COVID-19 continues to spread, the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh has broken two records of the pandemic.
With the total number of positive cases of virus crossing 700,000, AP has become the second worst affected state after Maharashtra. On the positive side the state has recorded the highest number of tests per 100,000 population helping in identifying maximum number of positive cases. According to a state government bulleting the state was conducting 100,000 tests per million population taking it to the top position among all the states of India.

So far more than 5.37 million tests were conducted in the state and 700,235 cases were found positive. The state has also recorded 5,869 deaths with 41 dying on Thursday.
The state has seen 636,508 recoveries while there were 5,758 active cases.
In the worst affected district of East Godavari, though the number of positive cases have come down, it was still recording 1,000 positive cases per day.
Meanwhile a study published by renowned journal “Science” revealed that men compared to women were the main spreaders of the virus as they had to go out of home more for work. The study by the experts also revealed that the children were also spreading the virus among their peers. 5,300 school going children had infected 2,506 other boys of the same age group, the study said. The report recommended more studies on the question whether children can also transmit the virus to the elders.
The study of the male cases also established that there was a higher risk of male patients infecting others of the same age group. The study, which covered Andhra Pradesh and neighboring Tamil Nadu concluded that the men were the superspreaders of the virus compared to women.
