Patna: In a huge setback to the ruling Bhaartiya Janata Party (BJP), three of its top leaders have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the midst of the assembly poll campaign in Bihar while the fourth leader has got himself quarantined for coming in contact with these leaders. All these leaders figure among the list of BJP’s “30 start campaigners” as submitted to the Election Commission.
The leaders having been tested positive for COVID-19 include—Sushil Kumar Modi, Bihar’s deputy chief minister, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, parliamentarian and Syed Shahanawaz Hussain, party national spokesperson. Modi and Hussain have already got themselves admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna. Similarly, Bihar health minister Mangal Pandey has quarantined himself after coming in contact with these leaders.
Two of these leaders, Modi and Hussain themselves broke the news through their Twitter handles. “Tested positive for CORONA. All parameters perfectly normal. Started with mild temp. No temp for last 2 days. Admitted to AIIMA Patna for better monitoring. CT scan of lungs normal. Will be back soon for campaigning,” Bihar deputy CM tweeted on Thursday.
Tested positive
Husain said he had come in contact with few people who tested positive for COVID-19. “I got myself tested today and my report has come positive. Request all who came in contact with me in the last few days. Kindly get yourself tested according to govt guidelines,” Hussain tweeted today.
However, the developments have invited bitter reactions from Twitteratis who have accused them of spreading Corona by supporting elections in time of the pandemic. “You people have tried to turn Bihar into Wuhan in a bid to win elections and you are bound to face consequences. God is watching all of you from above,” commented Raushan Kumar.
Another Suraj Kumar commented, “Just 4 days ago this person in a rally said it seems corona has gone. How pathetic logic you have! Don’t play with pandemic. Virus doesn’t know that you are MODI and very powerful in politics. Just wishing to the Goddess Durga keeps you healthy and for speedy recovery.”
Even bitter reaction came from Mukesh Kumar who asked, “How did you get admission to AIIMS and had CT Scan so soon while it takes 48 hours for a common man? This is the difference between the leaders and common men.”
COVID-19 has claimed seven top leaders in Bihar so far. They included Kapildeo Kamat, Vinod Kumar Singh, both ministers in the NDA government in Bihar, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, former federal minister and Sunil Kumar Singh, BJP lawmaker.
