A man allegedly dies by suicide at his residence in Meerut after constant fights with his wife on the day of Karva Chauth when women across India observed a fast and prayed for the long lives of their husbands.
The incident happened in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
Later the deceased was identified as Vinod Kumar. His wife was apparently, observing fast on the day of Karva Chauth.
According to the Indian media reports, Kumar had allegedly made attempts to end his life in the past as well. He was also suffering from mental trauma over the past few years.
Talking to the media, a senior police official Vijay Gupta said: "The man and his wife had arguments every month, and he was upset over the same. We reached the spot when the neighbours informed us, and the body has been sent for post-mortem."
In another incident from Uttar Pradesh, a 29-year-old woman named Kanchan died by suicide on the day of Karva Chauth.
Allegedly, the woman took the drastic step as she was tired of being subjected to abuse by her husband.
