Islamabad: The Pakistan government is in touch with leading global drug makers for effective, affordable and timely supply of COVID-19 vaccine.
This was informed during a meeting at the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday. It was further said that the vaccine manufacturers included the European, American and Chinese companies.
In a statement, the NCOC said the government was regularly reviewing all developments concerning the coronavirus, including data from Phase-3 clinical trials currently ongoing in Pakistan.
With these steps, it said the government would make a final decision about “early availability of the vaccine for Pakistan”.
84 deaths, 2,142 new cases reported in one day
Pakistan on Wednesday reported a total of 9,557 deaths caused due to COVID-19 — 84 in the last 24 hours. The total numbers of infections with 2,142 in one day have also jumped to 462,814.
Pakistan’s recoveries from COVID-19 have been reported at 415,352 after 4,415 more people recovered in the last 24 hours, according to the government’s COVID-19 portal.
The portal also shows that 2,419 virus patients are in critical condition while the number of critical cases is 37,905.
Buzdar feeling better after testing positive
Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar is feeling better a day after the CM House confirmed that he had tested positive for the coronavirus.
In a statement Buzdar said his health is better. The Punjab CM said he is self-isolating, but working on important things from home. He requested people to follow the coronavirus SOPs and avoid going to crowded areas.
PDM responsible for Buzdar’s infection
Chief Minister Usman Buzdar’s aide on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has blamed the anti-government alliance, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), for causing infection to the chief minister of Punjab.
“Opposition’s alliance has acted irresponsibly taking no regarding for the public health and holding rallies at a time when the entire country is gripped by the second wave of the pandemic,” said Awan in a tweet.
Humorist Anwar Maqsood tests positive
Pakistan’s well known humorist and scriptwriter Anwar Maqsood has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently in self-isolation. His son, singer Bilal Maqsood, confirmed the news saying, “He is Covid positive. Today he looked much better; hopefully, just a few more days, and he’ll be out of it InshaAllah,” he said.
Former Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad has also taken to social media with prayers for ‘good health and complete recovery’ of Anwar Maqsood.
