COVID-19 positivity rate declines in Islamabad

Islamabad: With 1,629 more people testing positive for COVID-19 and 23 patients losing their lives in a single day, Pakistan’s national average positivity ratio remained at around 4 per cent on Monday.

According to the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan’s toll due to COVID-19 after 23 deaths stood at 11,318 while the countrywide tally of cases has surged to 534,041.

The NCOC data shows that the positivity ratio of COVID-19 in Sindh is 10.23 per cent, Kashmir 5.97 per cent, KP 5.25 per cent, Balochistan 3.52 per cent, Punjab 2.54 per cent, Islamabad 1.75 per cent and GB 0.56 per cent.

District Health Officer of Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia announced on social media that a major decrease in the weekly positivity trend in the second wave has been recorded in Islamabad, from a highest of 6.83 per cent down to 1.75 per cent.

Recoveries rise

Pakistan after 36,607 tests for COVID-19 in one day, reported 2,218 critical cases and 33,820 active cases of COVID-19. According to the health ministry’s figures, Pakistan’s total recoveries have reached 488,903 with 2,414 patients recovered during the last 24 hours.

Moreover, the statics show there are 304 ventilators occupied across the country with no patient on vent in Gilgit Bal¬tistan (GB) and Balochistan.

Peshawar however, the NCOC says, continues to be the most adversely hit city as it reported 50.4 per cent of the overall fatalities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Against KP’s 5.25 per cent positivity, COVID-19 positivity rate in Peshawar was 11.2 per cent on Sunday, the highest in the country, according to the Health Health’s portal.

The province-wide death toll reached 1,839 and the provincial capital accounted for 927 coronavirus deaths since the onset of the pandemic.

Sindh police personnel test positive

More than 175 Sindh Police personnel have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last four days, a spokesperson for the law-enforcement agency said.

After the detection of the new cases, the total number of policemen who have been affected by the virus so far has risen to 5,422, he further said.

The spokesperson added that 23 officials have so far succumbed to the disease, while 4,846 have recovered.

9 health workers including 3 doctors die

According to the National Health Ministry, during the current month, a total of 9 health workers including three have died of COVID-19.

In January 2021, around 900 health workers, doctors, nurses, paramedical staff tested positive and of that number three doctors and six frontline health workers have lost the battle to COVID-19.
