Pakistan: Snake found in prison cell of Haleem Adil Shaikh

Karachi: The imprisoned Leader of Opposition in Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Shaikh, who belongs to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has said that his life became seriously endangered as a four feet long black-coloured lethal snake appeared in his lock-up room.

Talking to media persons and his supporters during his court appearance, the imprisoned Opposition Leader disclosed that the incident had happened at the lock-up room of the CIA Centre of the Sindh Police in Karachi.

He said he remained unhurt during the frightening incident and used a stick to kill it.

He informed the media that the deputy superintendent of police assigned for his personal security during the imprisonment had also witnessed the appearance of the snake and used his cell phone to film it.

Shaikh blamed the leaders of Pakistan Peoples’ Party ruling in Sindh for gravely endangering his life during the imprisonment.

He alleged that the ruling party of the province had deliberately imprisoned him just before the upcoming crucial Senate elections.

He said that an attempt was made by imprisoning him to get him disconnected from the lawmakers of his party in the Sindh Assembly before the important Senate vote on March 03.

Politically motivated

The Opposition Leader was of the view that his arrest during the recent by-election in a Karachi’s constituency was unwarranted and a politically motivated move of the provincial government.

He said that lodging of the cases and his arrest was undue as his own life became endangered during the by-poll as his bullet-proof vehicle was fired upon.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court in Karachi sent the incarcerated Opposition Leader to the Central Jail of the city on judicial remand. He will next be presented before the court on February 25, 2021.

The leaders of PTI also staged a protest sit-in outside Karachi Press Club against the imprisonment of Opposition Leader belonging to their party.

The PTI leader threatened to hold protest on every highway of Karachi if the victimization of the Opposition Leader continued. They alleged that the Sindh Police at the behest of the ruling party had lodged false cases against the Opposition Leader.
