Islamabad: The National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) in a meeting on Monday decided to open registration for people aged 40 and above from tomorrow to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiative Asad Umar in a tweet said the NCOC decided “to open up registration of 40 plus age citizens starting tomorrow.”
The NCOC also decided to allow walk-in vaccination of all registered citizens of 50 plus age groups. “If you are 40 years or older please register and encourage others to register,” said the minister in his tweet.
Pakistan’s vaccination drive received a boost as the country received another batch of 1 million doses from China.
April is proving the deadliest month of the year since there is no letup in the new cases and the deaths caused by COVID-19.
Pakistan’s coronavirus infections have surged to 800,452 with 4,825 persons testing positive in the last 24 hours.
The country’s death toll, 70 in the last one day, stands at 17,187.
Schools closed
Similarly, the country’s active cases have also recorded a grim figure of 88,698 forcing the authorities to take stringent measures including closing down all educational institutions under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) till Eid-ul-Fitr.
These schools had resumed only a week ago offering classes from grade-9 to grade-12.
According to a notification issued by the NCOC on Monday all educational institutions, colleges and universities will remain closed.
However, online classes will continue as per past practice, says the notification.
The Punjab government has also closed all educational institutions, both the government-run and the private in 25 districts till further orders.
According to a notification shared by Punjab Education Minister Dr Murad Raas on social media, COVID-19 positivity rate in these cities remained more than 5 per cent.
These districts include Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Chakwal, DG Khan, Hafiz Abad, Jhang, Kasur, Khanewal, Khushab, Lodhran, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Pak Pattan, Rahim Yar Khan, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, and Toba Tek Singh.
