Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to close all the educational institutions in the province including schools, colleges, and universities, as part of its precautionary measures to combat the third wave of the deadly coronavirus.
The decisions to this effect were reached as Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Monday chaired the meeting of the provincial Task Force on coronavirus.
“Certain proactive precautionary measures have to be taken in the province to safeguard the health and lives of the people before it’s too late and situation becomes adverse due to our inaction,” said the Sindh CM while briefing media persons after meeting of the Task Force.
Better situation
He, however, conceded that the coronavirus situation in Sindh was still much better as compared to the upcountry but complacency was not an option for his government as there was an alarming increase in coronavirus cases and related deaths in the province in the last few days.
He said the Sindh government had to take precautionary steps in the same manner as it had taken last year while taking the lead as other provinces and federal government in the country had to later follow its path to safeguard the lives of people.
The CM said that last year Pakistan had effectively tackled the coronavirus situation as the entire country had acted in unison to take the preventive steps against the coronavirus. The same spirit is required now to tackle the latest surge in the cases of the deadly disease, he emphasised.
Informing media about other decisions of the Task Force, he said the inter-city passenger transport in the province would be shut down from April 29.
Entire country
He said that he would request the federal government that the inter-city passenger transport should be suspended in the entire country.
He said that maximum 20 per cent staff would come to offices physically in the case of the government institutions as rest of the officials would work from home. The daily timing of the government offices would be from 9 am to 2 pm.
The CM told media persons that only 50 per cent staff would attend private offices in the province. “We will this time properly monitor this directive as the private offices have to be sealed, which will not obey this direction,” he said.
Shah appealed to the federal government to suspend international flights for the time being to prevent further increase in coronavirus cases.
He also urged the masses to keep staying wherever they were right now for employment purposes and should not go to their native areas on the upcoming occasion of Eid Al Fitr.
