Pakistan PM Imran Khan praises Saudi Arabia’s ‘Green Initiative’

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has praised Saudi Arabia’s Green Initiative. In a letter to Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Khan said he was delighted to learn about the plans for launching ‘Saudi Green Initiative’ as well as rallying the region for the larger ‘Green Middle East Initiative’ aimed at protecting the nature and planet.”

This initiative of Saudi Arabia is closely aligned with the Pakistan government’s “Clean and Green Pakistan” initiative which was investing in nature-based solutions to address climate change impact in the country.

“After successfully planting one billion trees from 2014 to 2018, our ‘10 billion Tree Tsunami’ initiative is well under way across the whole country. We are also expanding our protected areas — over 15 per cent land and 10 per cent marine — by 2023, said the PM in his letter, adding this demonstrates “planting trees not only protects nature and restores ecosystem to fight climate change, but also expands eco-tourism and creates thousands of green jobs for the youth as well as local communities.”

According to the PM’s office, Mohammed Bin Salman called the prime minister hours after the premier had written the letter. Both leaders reaffirmed the resolve to boost bilateral ties. The PM office in a series of tweets further said the prime minister and the crown prince agreed to work together to further strengthen bilateral ties in all spheres.

The Crown Prince invited Imran Khan to visit the Kingdom, which he has accepted.

Mohammed Bin Salman also inquired about Imran Khan’s health as the latter is currently in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 last week and wished him speedy recovery.
