Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh police have arrested a rebel MP of ruling YSR Congress party K Raghurama Krishnam Raju on charges of sedition after he had filed a petition before a special court seeking cancellation of the bail of Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Raju, who represents Narsapuram constituency in Parliament was arrested in Hyderabad on Friday night and shifted to Criminal Investigation Department at Guntur.
A team of officials led by additional Director General Sunil Kumar questioned the MP last night and throughout Saturday. According to the sources the CID wanted to know the sources of his information on the basis of which he was making comments on the state government and the Chief Minister. The CID officials also wanted to know who was extending technical support to him.
CID has booked a case of sedition under section 124A, disturbing communal harmony and hurting the dignity of the Chief Minister and other leaders. It named the MP as accused number 1 and two TV channels TV5 and ABN Andhra Jyothy as accused No 2.
Cause tension
In a statement issued after the arrest of the MP CID said, “through his speeches on regular basis Mr Raju was indulging in systematic, schematic effort to cause tension among communities by attacking various government dignitaries in a way which will cause loss of faith in the government which they represent”.
The MP was locked in a direct tussle with Jaganmohan Reddy for quite some time and was aggressively campaigning for cancellation of his bail alleging that Jaganmohan Reddy was violating the bail conditions.
Jaganmohan Reddy, who is facing trial in a CBI court in seven cases of massive corruption since 2012 and also spent several months in prison as an under trial is presently out on a bail.
Andhra Pradesh High Court on Saturday rejected MP’s petition for bail and asked him to go the Sessions Court with his petition. The High Court directed the CIB to produce him before a lower court.
