Pakistan PM Imran Khan announces cricket grounds across Pakistan

Islamabad: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has promised a cricket ground in each Union Council (UC) of the country.

In a tweet, the premier made this announcement while sharing images of a cricket ground under construction in his residential area Union Council (UC) Bani Gala in the suburbs of Islamabad.

The prime minister visited the Korang Cricket Ground and reviewed the pace of work there.

‘Biggest Tree Plantation Campaign’

In another tweet on Sunday, Khan asked the people of Pakistan, especially the youth, to be prepared for the ‘biggest tree plantation campaign’ in the country ahead of the monsoon season.

The prime minister shared an infographic on Twitter that showed there were only five trees per person in Pakistan.

According to the image shared by the PM, there are 422 trees per person around the world, but in Pakistan the ratio drops and there are only five trees for one person.

In contrast, the chart shows there are 10,163 trees for one person in Canada, 699 trees for one person in the US, and 130 in China.

Imran Khan in his message on social media noted “We have a lot of catching up to do.”

Ten Billion Tree Tsunami

Before coming to power in 2018, Prime Minister Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government (2008-2013) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) initiated the Billion Tree Tsunami Project (BTTP).

Based on the project’s success in KP, the PTI government launched in 2019 the Ten Billion Tree Tsunami Project (TBTTP) across the country which is perhaps the most publicised, rather “a flagship project” of Imran Khan’s government. Under this project, 10 billion trees will be planted in the country by the end of 2023.

The programme has been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) at a cost of Rs125.1 billion (Dh 2.909 billion).

On a number of occasions, the prime minister has highlighted the revival of forest and wildlife resources in Pakistan for promotion of eco-tourism in the country and to meet the challenges of global warming and climate change.

In February, Khan launched the Spring Plantation Drive.
