Islamabad: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said Pakistan had passed through the worst economic crisis. The country was at the takeoff stage and people would soon enjoy the dividends of the economic turnaround.
Addressing the groundbreaking ceremony for upgradation of a highway in Southern Punjab, the prime minister said all his life he had been struggling against the odds but never for one day did he lose hope.
“I believe, we have gone through the worst times and InshaAllah (God willing), in the coming days, Pakistan’s growth will not be turbulent with up and down cycles,” said Imran Khan reiterating his faith in his team of ministers and experts.
Pakistan will start its journey from the point when it was the fourth largest economy in Asia in 1968 after Japan, China and India, he said.
Facing criticism
The prime minister said his government was facing criticism from the first week. “The opposition and the media started asking within the seven days of our coming to power where Naya Pakistan was,” recalled Khan. “In a way, they implied we had failed,” he said, adding his government got through that period with patience.
Mafias are everywhere
The PM said Pakistan was currently carrying out a major struggle to free the country from “mafias”.
“They are everywhere. They want us to fail so that they can keep a system in place which benefits only them,” said the prime minister. But he promised the nation that the country would be rid of all mafias and corrupt elements.
