Islamabad: Pakistan on Monday decided to start vaccination of 18-year-olds from June 3 across the country.
Chairman of the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC), Asad Umar, in a tweet announced the vaccination of all the eligible age groups would be carried out in line with the NCOC decision.
Islamabad eases restrictions
With COVID-19 positivity rate declining significantly, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) decided to ease restrictions allowing opening of water parks, swimming pools, amusement parks and tourist points.
According to a notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner/District Magistrate of Islamabad, the decision has been taken in compliance with the guidelines of the NCOC and they will be subject to strict adherence to following protocols:
• 50 per cent capacity will be ensured at all entertainment facilities.
• No indoor dining/food court/food corner will be allowed.
• As regards to swimming pools, one-time occupancy will be clearly written alongside the pool for strict adherence.
• Regular chlorination of swimming pools will be ensured.
• Social distancing protocols at entry/exit and on amusement gadgets will be strictly adhered to.
According to the DHO of Islamabad, Dr Zaeem Zia, 30 per cent of the capital’s population has been vaccinated. All our 25 or so vaccination centres are administering jabs to the population, he said, urging the people of eligible age groups to visit them and get vaccinated.
Punjab, KP resume classes for 10th, 12th grade students
Physical classes for Matric (10th class) and 12th class resumed in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on Monday as per the decision of the NCOC.
However, classes up to Grade 8 and Grade 9 and 11 will resume on June 7 in a staggered way. The private educational institutions have also been ordered to follow instructions in letter and spirit.
Positivity continues to remain below 5 per cent
Pakistan on Monday reported 43 deaths and 2,117 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. With these latest additions, Pakistan’s total number of cases have reached 921,053 while the death toll stood at 20,779.
The country’s positivity rate after 52,223 tests in the last 24 hours was recorded at 4.05 per cent. Monday turned out to be the seventh consecutive day with less than 5 per cent positivity.
