Karachi: Karachi’s Administrator, Laeeq Ahmed, has warned that he does not want the services of doctors in the city who are not willing to treat COVID-19 patients.
Karachi’s Administrator gave a warning to this effect on a surprise visit to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the third largest public sector hospital of Karachi, where he found that its newly established COVID-19 ward was non-functional.
Ahmed said the doctors who were not ready to provide health care services to the coronavirus patients were not honouring the oath of their noble profession.
He said the doctors and other staff who were not willing to operate the COVID-19 ward had no right to remain associated with the hospital being run by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. Doctors and para-medical staff of one of Karachi’s largest hospitals who were not discharging their duties to treat COVID-19 patients had lost a precious opportunity to perform a vital national service, he said.
He said under the present situation the Karachi municipality was required to provide essential health care services as otherwise it would be a great injustice to people of the city.
Ahmed urged the doctors and para-medical staff of the hospital to perform their duties with utmost dedication and commitment to treat the patients of coronavirus.
He warned that doctors and support staff who refused to do their duties would be dismissed from service.
The COVID-19 ward of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital comprises of 70 beds, a 25 bed intensive care unit, and the facility of 18 ventilators for critically ill patients.
