India: Man murders homeless woman, returns to rape her dead body in Karnataka

Dubai: A man in the Indian state of Karnataka, first killed a homeless woman using a cement block, and then returned to rape her. The entire act was recorded on a CCTV camera nearby, and the police are now looking for the accused. The incident happened in the Hassan district, on Wednesday. The news is doing rounds on many social media platforms, since police have announced the search for the accused.

Reportedly, the woman and another man were sleeping on a pavement. According to news reports, the CCTV footage showed that the accused sneaked up to the side of the pavement, lifted a cement block and dropped it onto both their heads. The man, who had been sleeping on the right corner of the pavement, got up and ran, managing to escape. However, he the injured was left behind, writhing in pain. The accused fled the scene initially, only to return later and find that the woman had suffered a wound on her head, and was still struggling.

The accused then reportedly tried to grab her, and forced her to stand up. The woman, however, pushed him away. A few minutes later, he picked the same block of cement to hit her hard. After making sure she was dead, he proceeded to rape the dead body.

Urging immediate legal action, Facebook user Himanshu commented: "Such people are a burden on the earth, and have no right to live. Hang this monster before he kills some innocent ."

Talking to the media outlets, Hassan district Superintendent of Police Srinivas Gowda said: "The man first killed the woman, and then he had intercourse with the dead body. We are waiting for the forensic report to come in early, before we can add more sections to the First Information Report since this is a sensitive case.

"The man is yet to be identified and two teams have been formed to trace him. Besides, a technical team has also been formed to look for clues based on forensic evidence gathered at the scene", he added.

Hassan police officials said that they had questioned the other homeless man, who was sleeping on the pavement next to the woman.

According to Indian news reports, currently, the police have registered a case under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code, for murder.
